OCTOBER

The next meeting of the DESERT MORAYS will be held at the home of Jim and Karen Ashman, in Hemet. Contact me at: [email protected] for directions to their home.

Jim and Karen recently vacationed in Hawaii, and while there they were able to arrange a diving trip or two. At the last meeting, they shared some photos of them diving with sharks, holding an octopus, and other underwater shots. The water was clear and warm, and there was abundant sealife. All in all, it sounded like a wonderful trip. Now if we can only get them into some colder water....

The YUKON is asking for weekend volunteers to help prepare the ship for sinking. Volunteers are needed to help with removing artifacts, pulling out the ships wiring and other jobs to make the ship safe and clean for sinking. More information can be found on their website at: http://www.hmcs-yukon.org, or use the link that is on the DESERT MORAYS website.

What are the ocean conditions? How big are the swells right now? The DESERT MORAYS website now has a link to the Coastal data information program site, which shows the current swell height along the Southern California coast. Water temperature and air temperature can also be found on this site (too bad they don't report on parking conditions). Just click on the "ocean conditions" link near the top of the page. The 1999 lobster regulations have also been posted on the DESERT MORAYS site, along with information on the YUKON, links to California Diving News magazine, Wileys' Scuba Locker, and others.
