The Whitewater rafting trip is still in the planning stages. This adventure is to take place some time in either late June or early July '99, most likely on the July fourth weekend.. We are not sure yet what the water will be like although Southern California has had little rain this season, Central and Northern California has gotten quite drenched. We are not sure what effect this will have on the rapids. If you are interested in the trip, please contact us so we can get an accurate estimate as to how many people are participating.

The Eleventh annual Chamber Day Dive and Dinner will occur on Wednesday, May 5th. This fundraiser benefits the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber. This year's event has a new function: Chamber Evening at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. Catalina Chamber Day was conceived as a way for recreational divers to have fun diving while at the same time making a financial contribution to this important facility. With the day-time portion of the event, now in its eleventh year, dive-charter boats operating out of Los Angeles and Orange Counties graciously donate their time and services for the day, and divers pay to dive Catalina Island aboard one of the participating boats. Participants in the diving will receive a commemorative T-shirt. In addition, a prize drawing for major pieces of dive equipment will be conducted. Boats visiting Catalina will also take their passengers on a walking tour of the Chamber facilities. The day-time portion of the event runs approximately from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Those divers (and their loved ones) unable to get away for the daytime event, along with those that dived Catalina that day, can now participate in Chamber Evening, hosted by the magnificent Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. Chamber Evening guests will have run of the aquarium and will enjoy a sit-down dinner in the aquarium's Great Hall of the Pacific. In addition to the aquatic attractions, there will be door prizes, awards, and music. Chamver Evening runs from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The day-time diving event cost $70 per diver. The evening benefit is $75 per person. Divers can sign up for both events for $125. To purchase tickets for the day-time or evening activities, call (310) 652-4990. Payment can be made by cash, check or major credit card. Requests to be on a specific boat can be made at sign-up.

A message from Tony Wiley:
The Beach Divers club is small but one of the most active dive clubs I have
ever encountered. They are out there diving almost every weekend. As there
name indicates, they like to dive and explore beach sites along the coast
from San Diego to Monterey. Although the Beach is where you will find
them most often, they occasionally can be spotted at Catalina Island on a
dive boat. (However I think they miss the sand in everything while boat
diving)
All are welcome on a club dive. You just need a C-Card and enthusiasm
about diving.
If you are new to the area or just certified this is the group you want to
hook up with. For the experienced diver the club is working on projects
that just may make your fins flutter.
