Desert Morays Dive Club : October |
Meetings Changed to 2nd Thursday each month : Stock market plummets another 200 points.
The last meeting was held at the Ashman residence. Thanks, James & Karen. All future meetings will be held on the 2nd Thursday of each month. The October meeting will be held on Thursday, October 8th, at the Percival residence. If anyone needs directions to the Percival home, please contact me at: [email protected].
Our family visited the Long Beach Aquarium during the latter part of September. It's quite a nice aquarium for it's size. If you are interested in being a volunteer diver to clean the tanks, you can call their volunteer number, which is (562)-951-1659. We learned one must have a certificate in rescue diving, as well as having logged 50 dives. All volunteer divers must go through the aquariums' training class (I'm not sure if one would have to pay for these training classes.) and must make a year long commitment of once a month.
Lobster season begins October 3rd, at midnight. The Golden Doubloon will be having a lobster dive the night the season opens. Mike would like to plan a dive for Friday, October 23rd on the Peace. If anyone is interested, please contact me at : [email protected] It has been said that the best diving occurs between now and December 31st.
Mike also informed us of a possible white water river rafting trip that could take place in June of '99. It is $65 per person. One may also dive in Lake Isabella. The lake is near the white water rafting. Come to the next meeting for more information about this event.
Mike & Marty went diving on a new boat called The Pacific Dream. It is a two hull catamaran. There are no bunks for sleeping, however, it does have a huge galley. This is not an overnighter, nor is there any space to stow dry bags, as it is all open. Their first dive was at Bird Rock. The second dive at Sea Fan Grotto, and on the third dive the guys got to play with some horn sharks. Mike felt the second dive was the best. Marty was not available for comment, but a spokesperson denies all charges. Non-divers get a cut rate of $35. The Pacific Dream carries kayaks for non-divers, and of course, they can snorkel as well. The fee for divers is $75-80 per person. The boys had a good time, however, Mike prefers a boat with sleeping quarters.
REMEMBER: The meeting date has been changed to THURSDAY!!
